Parametric Robot Control – Special Workshop

The Parametric Robot Control special workshop takes place on August 26th, preceding the Poster Session.

 

Workshop Goal: The workshop provides participants with hands-on experience with cutting-edge robotic hardware: KUKA’s new Linux-based KRC5-2 controller and the LARA 3 cobot by Neura Robotics, the German robotics company that recently closed a Series C financing of up to $1.4 billion. Both are controlled through the new Parametric Robot Control (PRC) software environment. PRC builds upon the well-established KUKA|prc plugin but extends it significantly – supporting additional robot brands and types, and enabling integration into software environments beyond Grasshopper via gRPC. This allows users to embed robot simulation and control directly into task-specific software, from Grasshopper and Blender to vvvv and beyond. The workshop gives an overview of PRC in Grasshopper and presents its integration into vvvv, a visual programming environment for interactive media and real-time interaction.

 

Target Audience: The special workshop addresses both newcomers to industrial and collaborative robotics and developers interested in integrating PRC into their own software environments. Attendance is free for everyone registered for the ROB|ARCH conference.

 

Workshop Team: The workshop is co-taught by Johannes Braumann and Amir Bastan. Johannes is co-founder of the Association for Robots in Architecture, has been developing KUKA|prc for over 16 years, and holds the professorship for Creative Robotics at the University of Arts Linz. Amir is a researcher at Creative Robotics and an expert in real-time robot interaction; he is closely involved in the vvvv community and has realized high-end robotic projects and installations with vvvv.

 

Schedule: August 26th, 10:00am–2:00pm. Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptops.
